NHTSA mandates Seatbelts for Buses except School Busing

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the federal government agency that has jurisdiction dealing with safety issues pertaining to motor vehicles, will require commercial buses to have safety belts this year.We guess one can say, “What took them so long?”
Seat belts on buses, or “motor coaches”, have been advocated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for a long time. The NTSB can make recommendations but it doesn’t have the legal authority to make standards. That is the authority of NHTSA.

Note that school buses are exempt from this ruling.

Our take? Wait! Why ignore school buses? Shouldn’t the regulations cover all commercial bus services from motor coaches to school buses?
