Although it debuted as a 2009 model, Kia is already well on the way to get its next-generation Forte on the road. But if the automaker was looking to keep the car under wraps for a while longer, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
Leaked onto the internet are sketches of the next-generation Kia Forte sedan. Looking long, low, and sporty, this sketch shows the sedan will carry many traits taken on from the midsize Optima. We’ve seen photos of a camouflaged mule undergoing testing, and it looks very similar. The car will be based on the 2012 Hyundai Elantra; the current Forte was built off the same underpinnings as the previous-generation Elantra.
Having spoken with a person familiar with the next Forte, we can report that the car will likely arrive in the U.S. in 2013 as a 2014 model. Although details weren’t immediately available about the car, the source said the new car would be “awesome.” While we don’t have much more information about it yet, looking at what we’ve seen so far of the 2014 Kia Forte, we’re inclined to agree.
