As if we haven’t heard enough about the Frankfurt Auto Show this month, now that it’s over, the auto industry is already talking about the next big European auto show in Geneva. Already on the list of official unveilings in March is the 2013 Ford Mondeo, the source for our own Ford Fusion.
The Mondeo has been spied on several occasions, but according to Auto Express, the Evos Concept-inspired next-gen Mondeo will hit European showrooms by late summer, just months after the unveil at Geneva, which means that the American Fusion is not far behind.
The current Fusion, of course, won Motor Trend’s Car of the Year in 2010, and Ford is banking on a successful successor. Auto Week’s exclusive illustrations reveal a handsome and muscular design, with an Evos-like front grille, slender headlights, and raised rear-wheel arches.
Auto Express has also learned that the forthcoming Mondeo will arrive with a number of engine options, including two diesel engines and two EcoBoost four-cylinders, and possibly later, a hybrid model. More than likely, America will not get the diesel options, and it’s likely that Ford will only offer one of the two turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, also found in the upcoming Focus ST (2.0-liter EcoBoost) and Fiesta ST (1.6-liter EcoBoost). Either option figures to promise moderate power for the front-wheel drive family sedan, and rate in the mid-to-high 30′s mpg for highway driving.
