We’ve heard of plenty of car auctions to benefit breast cancer awareness and prevention medicine, but we’ve never quite seen a hired taxi designed to do the same thing. There’s a first time for everything.
British radio personality and avid car collector Chris Evans has partnered with Rolls-Royce to make a pink, one-off extended-wheelbase Rolls-Royce Ghost for a project called FAB1 Million. Starting on March 18 and running for an entire year, the car will be the centerpiece of a hired taxi service and will be featured at galas to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care, a U.K. charity. Evans hopes FAB1 Million will raise 1 million pounds (more than $1.5 million at today’s exchange rate) with the FAB1-themed ride.
For those out there with little knowledge of British pop culture, FAB1 was the name of the Rolls-Royce in the 1960s science fiction show, Thunderbirds, owned by Lady Penelope.
The 2013 Rolls-Royce Ghost EWB was gifted by the automaker with pink-colored umbrella accents and details throughout the interior. It also has hand-veneered picnic tables, 9.2-inch monitors, a cooled champagne box, and pink lambs’ wool rugs.
The maiden voyage for the Rolls will be from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and all proceeds earned using it will be donated to Breast Cancer Care.
