Navteq, provider of digital map and traffic information, recently did a survey of U.S. consumers concerning their use of navigation systems. The study found that 48 percent of U.S. consumers are using some kind of navigation device. That’s up from only 22 percent in 2006.
The study also found that more people are using portable navigation devices (PNDs) then in-dash systems, but users of in-dash systems use them more often. Another survey done by Navteq found that consumers tend to use a navigation system or device with real time updates than systems or devices that do not have the feature.
The statistics are based on the use of PNDs, in-dash navigation systems and cell phone based navigation.
Finally, reports TWICE, Navteq discovered that two-thirds of cell phone users in eight countries want a mapping service on their device for driving and walking directions.
