More Than 32,000 BMWs Recalled Due To Fire Risk

2011 Bmw 5 Series Gt

A faulty electric water pump has prompted a recall of 32,084 BMW 5 and 7 Series, X5 and X6 models today. All of the models are powered by either a turbocharged V-8 engine or BMW’s V-12 engine.

At issue is a circuit board in the engine’s auxiliary water pump. A fault in the circuit board’s construction can cause it to overheat, potentially causing a fire. All of the affected vehicles were built between 2008 and 2011, and include the 5 Series sedan, 5 Series Gran Turismo hatchback, 7 Series, and the X5 and X6 utility vehicles.

BMW will replace the faulty pump free of charge starting in November. If you have questions, call BMW’s customer service line at (800) 525-7417, or contact the NHTSA at (888) 327-4236, and reference campaign ID number 11V521000.
