Mitsubishi Recalls 1,400 2012 i-MiEVs

2012 Mitsubishi i

On January 25, 2013, Mitsubishi Motors North America sent out a recall on 1,400 2012 i-MiEVs with a manufacturing date between December 2, 2011 and September 7, 2012. The recall is in reference to faulty brakes, with the possibility that the brake system vacuum pump will fail, causing the vacuum to become inoperable.

If the vacuum pump fails, the reduced braking power would lead to lengthened stopping distanced and increase the risk of an accident.

Mitsubishi is in the process of notifying all owners now, although the manufacturer has not provided a notification schedule as of yet. Dealers will replace the compromised vacuum pumps at no charge to the owner.

The campaign recall number is SR-13-001, and owners may contact Mitsubishi directly at (888) 648-7820. Alternatively, you can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline by phone at (888) 327-4126 or online at www.safercar.gov.
