Remember a few months back when Mitsubishi unveiled its G4 Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show? Well now, we have the production version of that and it comes in the form of the Mirage sedan. The Mitsubishi Mirage sedan, or Attrage as it’s known as in Thailand, will go on sale there in June. There are also rumblings that it will appear on our shores in the not-so-distant future, too, but no confirmation has been given yet. Rumor has it we could see the Attrage after the Mirage is released later this fall. The subcompact Mirage sedan, or Attrage, expands upon the hatchback variant that debuted in New York last month.
Mitsubishi is promising that the Attrage will have excellent forward visbility, a tight turning radius, and a surprising amount of interior space. The Attrage’s squat face is also expected to help boost fuel economy figures, and paired with a CVT, it’s believed that an EPA rating of 37 mpg city and 44 mpg highway will be achieved. For those keeping score at home, that’s better than any other non-hybrid gas-powered vehicle currently offered in the United States.
To get these numbers, Mitsubishi enlisted a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine mated to your choice of a CVT or five-speed manual transmission. It appears Mitsubishi is putting a lot of its eggs in the Attrage’s basket as it plans to produce more than 100,000 units after five years in production. Mitsubishi plans on launching the Mirage hatchback later this year and it’s expected that if all goes well, we could see the Mirage subcompact sedan, possibly wearing the Attrage nametag, soon after that.
