Michigan Five-O, Police Test 2012 Dodge Charger to Justify Cool Cop Car

The 2012 Dodge Charger is the fastest car the Michigan State Police have tested yet. Boasting a lap time of 1:33.70 at Grattan Raceway, approximately 20 miles out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, the 370 horsepower V8 Charger recorded the quickest time. Also, less official, it looks pretty cool, even with the old-school “gumdrop” single light perched on the roof.

In a series of tests pitting the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle, the 2013 Ford Police Interceptor, and the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit against each other, the Pentastar brand was tops, according to Chrysler. The automaker said speed wasn’t the only thing being evaluated, noting the Charger includes seven airbags and stability control as standard. Rapid acceleration from a stopped position was assessed, with the 2012 Dodge Charger recording a 0-60 mph time just under six seconds, and just under 13.5 seconds to 100 mph.

In addition to the V-8 models, 292-hp V-6 Chargers fared well. Available for the first time on 2012 Chargers, is the all new eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition to a smoother ride, fuel economy numbers are up, giving police forces everywhere an added reason to consider the Charger.
