Set to be unveiled for real next week, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class slipped out a little earlier…in scale model form. This latest S-Class has become more luxurious to replace the Maybach, and adds an extra-long version set to top the range. An S-Class coupe will replace the CL, and a cabriolet will provide the best open-top luxury for the lineup.
The S-Class was previously spotted, and the spy photos showed both a camouflaged car as well as one that was completely free of any attempt to cover up the changes. The new S-Class will go up against cars like the Rolls-Royce Ghost and the Bentley Mulsanne. Externally, the car has distinct character lines that will no doubt age gracefully, but there are no major redesigns. The exterior has been updated just enough to make it feel more modern than the previous generation. Inside the updated vehicle will be a slew of new technology, with two 12.3in TFT screens, as well as a new Thermotronic climate control with ionizing components to filter viruses and spores.
Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will feature an S250 CDI, marking a first for Britain. This 2.1-liter diesel engine will produce 201 brake horsepower and 369 pound feet of torque. Other engine variants include a V-6 and V-8 gasoline engine, as well as possible AMG performance models.
