Sometimes there are realities that must be lived with despite the hardship. Take for example large families that need a mode of transportation that can accommodate all their members. The only true alternative is SUVs. Yet, with the price of gasoline and the reputation that SUVs are gas guzzlers, what is a big family to do?
Well, research has been done and a list of the least expensive sports utility vehicles to own has been compiled. Calculations were based on:
- Owner’s expenses are for five years.
- The SUV is driven 15,000 miles per year.
- 10 percent was supplied as a down payment on the vehicle.
- The loan is for 60 months.
- Average demographics are used to determine insurance rates.
So which vehicles made the cut? From Best to Worse, here’s the list:
Compact SUVs:
- Jeep Patriot
- Mazda Tribute
- Jeep Compass
- Honda CR-V
Midsize SUVs:
Large SUVs:
Luxury SUVs:
- Hummer H3
- Saab 9-7X
- Lexus GX 470
- Mercedes-Benz M-Class

It is an interesting vehicle.
Pretty cool that Jeep had 2 on that first list. I am constantly trying to convince people that Jeeps are great choices for family SUV’s but everyone would rather own a Honda because they think it’s more fuel efficient. I would like to see a Jeep Hybrid soon…that would be cool.
Anyway, thanks for the post and feel free to check out my site where we have some pretty cool Jeep gear! http://jeepbikeracks.com/
