The effects of Mitsubishi Motors working with French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen Group may have an added advantage for those Americans who would like to see Peugeo return to the U.S.
According to Vroom Vroom, Citroen and Peugeot have added re-named versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover to their lineup. And, as a result, rumors are flying that another cross-sharing could mean that Mitsubishi could be manufacturing Peugeot’s next generation 408 sedan at its plant in Illinois.
Well, don’t exactly hold your breath for a so-called "French Invasion". Even if — and that’s a big if — the Japanese automaker does build the 407 replacement in the U.S., it would be at least 12 months away. Also, Peugeot would have to create a new dealer network. Then, again, Mitsubishi dealers could stock and sell the car while Peugeot gets its feet settled under them.
A more likely scenario is Peugeot would use the Mitsubishi plant as the site for construction and export of its cars to South America.
Our take? Stay tuned.
