Ingition Tests 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS: A Very Functional, Fast Hunchback

2013 Porsche Panamera GTS Front Quarter Ignition

Can you think of a car that basically does it all: Goes fast, hauls four people in comfort, is fun to drive, and can still get your family’s groceries with ease?

We can think of a handful, but few of them do it as well as the 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS. Slotting in between the Porsche Panamera 4S and the epically quick Panamera Turbo, the GTS gets some engine touchups to bring it to 430 horsepower, receives suspension adjustments from the high-powered Turbo model, and sports a host of tweaks. It starts at just over $111,000, but Motor Trend‘s “Ignition” YouTube program had one optioned out to $146,250—a gag-inducing figure if ever there were one.

But that includes frivolous extras like a $3,000 paint job and ceramic brakes that cost $9,210 that, while incredibly capable, you’re probably not going to need unless you’re a frequent visitor to your local racetrack. And, in that case, we wonder why you’re flinging a more than two-ton sedan around at the track.

And then there’s the styling, which is a little cumbersome, clumsy even. But it pays dividends when you’re sitting in the rear seat, your head lightly jammed against the Alcantara headliner. In testing on a drag strip and through the gauntlet of Motor Trend‘s handling courses, the 2013 Porsche Panamera GTS posted remarkable numbers. But what’s even more amazing is how it did as a practical daily driver. Check it out below.
