If an automaker creates a sports car, its primary objective should be to make drivers and passengers smile so much that it hurts. It shouldn’t be for weekend grocery-getters who think a car should be about style unto itself; it should be for enthusiasts to fling around on a whim without remorse for buying a new set of rear tires.
Keeping that in mind, our friends at Motor Trend set off to see whether the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track passed muster as a true enthusiast car in their latest episode of “Ignition.” Packing 348 horsepower from its 3.8-liter V-6, the $33,875 Genesis Coupe gets put through its paces by associate road test editor Carlos Lago. He gathers data—acceleration, braking, cornering, and a lap time of Motor Trend’s signature figure eight course. But then he puts it through more subjective testing: visual appeal, the car’s sounds, how it feels to the driver, and its ability to drift.
We’re not going to spoil the fun, so we insist you go ahead and check out the video below or head to Motor Trend‘s YouTube channel for more great videos.
