For this episode of Motor Trend’s Ignition, Kim Reynolds journeys to Pamplona, Spain to check out classic Jaguars as well as see the latest convertible sports car produced by the automaker. Jaguar handed over three versions of the car, the V-6, V-6S, and V-8. This episode hopes to answer the question of which of these three variants is the true E-Type successor.
Reynolds starts off the video driving the 340 horsepower supercharged V-6 F-Type base model, making sure to point out the car is about enthusiasm, emotion, and feeling, not all the technical information that Jaguar wanted him to read about. The connection between the road, steering, and wheels is closer than he expected, giving the car its sports car feel.
Next up was the F-Type S, with 40 more horsepower that promises more fun than the base model. This might be the sweet spot, as there’s not too much extra weight in relation to the extra power. It’s an improvement over the base model, although it’s hard to consider the previous car a base model as it is still completely satisfying. The F-Type S just adds to it.
Last up was the supercharged V-8, producing 495 horsepower. Reynolds makes not that it is quite different from the previous two cars and that he believes it should have a tiger as the emblem, not a jaguar as the V-8 is more ferocious and powerful. The differences between the two previous variants and this are not too noticeable, but you can feel the extra mass when cornering.
