Hyundai Veracruz Goes American At 2007 Detroit Auto Show

Hyundai Motor Co. reports that it will be debuting its newest SUV, the Veracruz, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan in January. Hyundai Veracruz Goes American At 2007 Detroit Auto Show image

The Veracruz is the Korean automaker’s third SUV, following the newly revamped Santa Fe and all-new Tucson. It will be bigger than both its older siblings, though, with third-row seating and greater interior space than the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV.

The Veracruz will be most likely powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine and carry a full complement of airbags and other safety devices. Other details, especially pricing, will be announced shortly after the debut.

Our take? Hyundai is really on the roll. We’re getting a little, concerned, that the automaker may be moving a little too fast. Toyota, which the company claims to be its benchmark, has recently suffered a string of small but numerous quality issues which many analysts attribute to its rapid growth. Could Hyundaibe setting itself for such a similar situation?

    So far I’ve heard good reports from owners. However, this is not the first time Hyundai rushed to get lots of inexpensive products out. I think it has learned its lesson but the market’s way more competitive than ever before.

    I say if they have the engineering capability and the means to keep the quality up, go for it! It would be foolish of them to let their quality slip considering how hard they fought to get to the position they are today. I don’t forsee any major issues. But what will make or break them is customer service at dealerships and how attentive they are to repairing customers vehicles. Even if a car is a POS, if the dealer is helpful and the service dept. is courteous and professional, they might still be able to salvage their reputation.
