Everywhere you look someone is gripping tightly to an iPhone, Android, or some other type of smartphone, because whatever the need, there’s an app for that. As so, Hyundai announced it launched a refreshed version of Blue Link, an app that can control and peek into a variety of vital vehicle signs and other features. The app, available on iTunes for iPhone users and Google Play for consumers with an Android phone, allows users to remotely access vehicle features and other services through a new, faster interface. For those who have a Blackberry, don’t fret, an app for Blackberry users isn’t far off either.
The new interface was fleshed out with help from customer feedback and Hyundai took into consideration how people use their smartphones. New features such as a swipe carousel which allows users to jump to important access points and one-touch shortcut buttons have been integrated into the app’s new configuration.
“We looked at how our customers use their smartphones to enhance various aspects of their lives,” said Michael Deitz, senior group manager, Blue Link. “We wanted to design an app that allows them to enhance their Hyundai ownership experience through Blue Link.”
The redesigned Blue Link app allows users to find and store helpful Points of Interest and send them directly to their vehicle or email to a friend. Users can also access POI by entering a city, state, and zipcode through an on-screen keyboard with the app. Blue Link can also remotely start the vehicle, lock and unlock doors and turn on the lights and/or horn. Vehicles equipped with a push-button starter and an automatic or dual-clutch transmission can utilize the remote start feature. Perhaps the best feature in the entire app is the built-in Parking Meter/Timer function which keeps you a few steps ahead of that annoying meter maid and a hefty fine. This feature can be accessed through Blue Link as well.
There are three different packages offered with Blue Link, the Assurance package, Essentials package, and the Guidance package. The Assurance package features Automatic Collision Notification and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, and Enhanced Roadside Assistance. The Essentials package is made up of features like Remote Access (horn, lights, vehicle start, car finder, and panic notification), Convenience (alarm notification, quick tips, location sharing, voice text messaging), Vehicle Self Diagnostics, Theft Protection, and Safeguard. The Guidance package includes a turn-by-turn navigation service, route guidance with traffic conditions, restaurant ratings, and an eco-coach which tracks a driver’s habits by the average mpg and CO2 emissions.
