Hyundai Elantra, Santa Fe, Sonata — Built in the U.S.

Hyundai may be a Korean automaker, but it is prepared to produce 80 percent of its vehicles for sale in the United States.

“I’m going to build my three best selling cars in the U.S.,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America boss (pictured).

Hyundai’s plant in Montgomery, Alabama, produces the Sonata and will soon be home to the compact Elantra. The Santa Fe, formerly built in Alabama, makes a short trip east and is now built in Kia’s West Point, Georgia, facility alongside the Kia Sorento. Through September, these three top-selling models (Elantra, Santa Fe, Sonata) combined to make up 76 percent of Hyundai’s year-to-date sales in the U.S, and the automaker only foresees that percentage going up.
