Hydrogen-Powered Ford Escapes power up for U.S. Army action

It seems that the U.S. Army is getting hydrogen hybrid vehicles. A company called Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide has designed, developed, and will be shipping three new electric hybrid vehicles that use a hydrogen internal combustion engine to the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center for deployment at an Air National Guard base.

The vehicle is constructed on a Ford Escape platform and features Quantum’s advanced hydrogen system. Army personnel will drive the vehicles and wil refuel them at a Chevron Hydrogen station near the base.

The vehicles will be tested for one year.

By the way, Quantum is co-founder of Fisker Automotive, manufacturer of so-called “environmentally friendly” cars.
