Auto makers use car shows not only to promote what they have available to consumers now what they are working on for the future.Called concept vehicles, current trends showcase electric car or hybrid from tiny city cars to sports vehicles.
Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen are all showcasing hybrid or electric cars in their booths at many of the world’s auto shows. Here’s a look at some that are turning the most heads and raising the most eyebrows.
Audi’s E-tron is a two seat sports car that runs exclusively on battery power.
The BMW Concept ActiveE is a battery powered version of the BMW 1 Series Coupe.
Fiat-Chrysler showed its Fiat 500 BEV battery powered vehicle at the Detroit Auto Show. The company says that it is now a “trial balloon” to gauge consumer interest. For now, there are no plans to produce it.
Hyundai’s Blue-Will Concept is a plug-in hybrid that is meant to show in what direction the Korean automaker is going.
Honda’s CR-Z is a hybrid that features a 1.5 liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine that is assisted by a battery powered electric motor. The automaker says that it will be selling the car in the U.S. starting this summer.
Toyota’s FT-CH Concept is a smaller, less expensive hybrid.
The Volkswagen New Compact Coupe Concept is a hybrid with a 1.4 liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that features turbocharging, direct injection, an electric motor and a seven speed automatic transmission.
Of course, by now we all know of the Chevrolet Volt.
