How to Talk on Your Cellphone while Driving Safely

Cell Phone Use While Driving

Here in the Golden state, chatting on a handheld will cost you. However, you can use hands-free do-dads for those omnipresent conference calls for work or chewing out your kids.
The National Safety Council, who was definitely a supporter of the hand-held ban, wants to go further. Fact, the organization wants all wireless chatting while driving stopped hook, line, and stinker. The National Motorists Association, though, poked some pretty big holes in the Council’s proposal:

  • How about finding yourself in the “wrong part of town?” Pulling over to get directions might not be a good idea. Your cell phone may be your only option.
  • Forgetfulness. Leaving something important behind. You could simply call the person before the situation was beyond repair to let them know what they have forgotten.
  • With everyone cutting back on needless travel, combining errands is important. A quick call to ask someone to stop and pickup or deliver something for you may be helpful.
  • What if you see a crime being committed and you need to call law enforcement?

More can be found at the original article. What do you think of the Council’s proposal?

How can talking on a hands free be any less distracting then talking to a passenger? Playing with a radio, attending to a baby? I am all for banning cell phone use while driving, but hands free are OK as far as I’m concerned.
