It seems that some high end luxury cars are trickling down into the entry level luxury car segment of the market. Reports say that the models from exotic auto brands are coming with costly new technologies. Thus the car makers, who want to recoup the investment, want to sell these cars in high volume. Ergo! And the way to sell more is to sell more of them for a lower price.
All of a sudden, a Bentley may be in reach for a guy who would buy a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or an entry level Aston-Martin can be bought by a guy who would have gone for a BMW 7 Series or Audi A8.
Keep in mind, we are still talking about telephone numbers when we consider the price of these cars. Entry level for luxury is certainly not entry level for the midrange where we all dwell.
Here’s an example. Maserati is now offering the GranTurismo coupe for a low price of $113,450. Remember, low price is relative. And Maserati is also offering a four door version of this car, the Quattroporte, for a price of $119,000.
Our take? Again, it is all relative. A price of $119,000 might as well be $1 million as far as we’re concerned.
