How a 2013 Chevy Corvette’s $600,000 Price Tag is a Drive to End Hunger

First 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Raises $600,000 for Charity © GM Company

Drive to End Hunger is a charity organization sponsored by the AARP aimed to feed millions of Americans. The organization sponsors racing legend Jeff Gordon who recently, with Hendrick Motorsports, teamed up to raise $700,000, much of which is coming from the recent auction of the first 2013 Chevrolet 427 Corvette Collectible Edition.

The auction was hosted by famed car auction house Barrett-Jackson, which held the event in Scottsdale, Arizona. The convertible sold on Sunday for $600,000. According to General Motors, 427 Corvette convertibles are highly sought by collectors especially those built between 1966 through 1969. The 2013 Chevy 427 Corvette convertible is not only the newest model, but the most powerful as well, its 427-cubic-inch (hence the moniker) 7.0-liter engine generating over 500 horsepower. Like its Z06 siblings, the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Collectible convertible comes strictly with a six-speed manual transmission.
