The 2012 Summer X Games in Los Angeles are set to take control of the city later this month and athletes of all trades are gearing up to take the gold medal in their respective sport. Hot Wheels, maker of diecast toy cars and trucks, is also holding its own extreme action sports event at the X Games but no gold medals will be awarded, just the prestige of holding another world record.
On Saturday, June 30, Hot Wheels will send the Green Driver, known for speed, and the Yellow Driver, known for pushing it to the limit, through a six-story loop as part of a promotion for the Double Dare Snare loop that’s available in stores nationwide now. With the toy version of the Double Dare Snare loop, you can send two 1:64 diecast cars or trucks through to see which vehicle wins. In the life-size version, both the Green and Yellow driver will enter the six-story loop at 52 mph and are expected to reach 7 Gs, similar to what fighter jet pilots experience during a barrel roll.
The drivers selected to complete the loop and have world record recognition bestowed upon them are Tanner Foust, the Green driver, and Greg Tracy, the Yellow driver. Foust is a three-time X Games gold medalist and a two-time Formula Drift champion. Foust also co-hosts Top Gear America and will be competing in this year’s Rally-cross circuit in the X Games. Foust is no stranger to setting world records with Hot Wheels, as he landed a jump spanning 332-feet at last year’s Indianapolis 500. Greg Tracy has a long history as a stuntman in Hollywood dating back to 1991 and also has a few professional accolades like being a six-time Pikes Peak champion too.
You can watch Tanner Foust, Greg Tracy, and the rest of the athletes at the 2012 X Games in Los Angeles June 28 to July 1 on ESPN and its’ family of networks.
