It seems that the gadgets doesn’t do it anymore for the extreme luxury cars.
Too many of the gadgets are trickling down to the entry level cars. So makers of the extreme luxury sedans have to look for something else to impress their market base. So what’s the new bling? Outrageous horsepower.
Four hundred horsepower for your BMW? How slow. Now these extreme sedans are pushing on up to 600 horsepower and higer. That’s more horses than run fifty Kentucky Derbies.
Here’s just an example of what’s out there:
- Audi RS4 – 414 horsepower.
- Audi S8 – 450 horsepower (pictured)
- BMW M5 – 500 horsepower.
- Cadillac CTS-V – 400 horsepower.
- Cadillac STS-V – 320 horsepower.
- Chrysler 300C SRT8 – 425 horsepower.
- Mercedes-Benz CLS63 – AMG 507 horsepower.
- Mercedes-Benz E63 – 507 horsepower.
- Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG – 603 horsepower.
Our take? It’s really kind of sad. All that power that can’t be used anyway because of the speed limits on our nation’s highways. Maybe all these cars and those like them should be crated up and sent back to Germany where they can push their limits on the Autobahn.
