Honda Jazz Hybrid heralds future Honda Fit Hybrid for U.S.

2007 Honda Jazz Front Right

Okay, so technically “hybrid Jazz” would be more correct, but what Europeans know to be the Jazz we know to be the Fit. Regardless, it is now known that there will be a hybrid version of the car to be on offer soon enough. The Honda Fit hybrid will share much of its hybrid powertrain with the forthcoming, next generation Insight; namely a 1.3 liter gas motor coupled to electric powertrain components offering some 60+ mpg. Fitting, since the two cars also share much of their underpinnings.

Which ultimately of course brings up this question. Will we see it here stateside?

Considering that Honda already intends to undercut the price of Toyota’s Prius by some amount, it’s hard to imagine them crowding their own niche with a Fit hybrid. After all, when taking into consideration the premium the Civic Hybrid commands over its conventional brethren, a Fit Hybrid would be near the $20,000 mark. Close enough to the Insight to either take sales from it or not sell at all.

What say you?

Our take? Still though, we’d love to see a hybrid in he tFit form factor, especially if Honda could shift it towards the more sporting side of the spectrum.
