Last month, reports flew that Honda planned to axe its Acura Legend otherwise known as the Acura RL here in the states. The model’s discontinuation in the UK lent credibility to the speculation.
Well, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito axed that idea. Ito, according to Autocar, states the Legend/RL is “a necessary model for the US” and has a loyal fan base back home as well.
Full article can be found above. Our take? We were actually quite skeptical about the original rumor in the first place. The elimination of the RL would disrupt the three-vehicle “tier”system followed by most automakers (entry, mid, and flagship). The Acura TL, the brand’s midlevel offering, may be its most popular sedan but we’ve heard no plans for it to replace the RL. We suspect Honda continues to work on the best formula to make the future RL not only distinct from its siblings, but even more competitive with the Lexus LS.
