GM Recalls Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain for Non-Working Tire Pressure System

2011 Chevrolet Equinox Ltz Side View

General Motors is recalling Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models for their failing tire pressure monitoring systems, which might not work as intended.

The tire pressure warning light is designed to illuminate when tire pressure is below 25-percent of the recommended cold tire pressure. In certain 2011 Equinox and Terrain models, however, the light simply doesn’t work. Low tire pressure can stress the tires to failure, causing a serious accident. The systems became mandatory after the Ford Explorer tire recall in the early ’00s.

The recall affects 33,964 models from the Chevrolet and GMC families, built from July 18 through September 6 of 2011.  Those concerned by the recall can call Chevrolet at 1-(800) 630-2438, and GMC at 1-(866) 996-9463.
