You know you’ve made it when you are featured on VH1′s Pop-Up Video show. The Fiat 500 Abarth can now add that “accomplishment” to the long line of achievements it has already accrued. Starting today the feisty cinquecento will be showcased on the popular show with the same format that regular music videos use and will continue to air until the end of the month. The one minute spot expands upon the original commercial that first began raising awareness for the tiny two-plus-two.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Pop-Up Video, it’s a 30-minute show that airs on VH1. Pop-Up Video plays music videos but have “pop-up” bubbles known as “info nuggets” that include random statistics, trivia, and definitions. The show’s original run started in late 1996 and quickly became VH1′s most popular show until Behind the Music took the title in 1998. Pop-Up Video was later cancelled in 2002 but regained momentum after a nine year hiatus and VH1 has been airing the show again with new videos for two months now.
In the original commercial a man is walking down the street when he spots a beautiful woman (Catrinel Menghia-”a big time European model” as she is referred to in one of the info nuggets) in a compromising position. The man is caught staring at her and in turn the woman starts verbally berating him. But then just as quickly as it all started the woman becomes sensual pulling the man in close and starts playing with his drink. If you haven’t seen the commercial you can check it out here.
