Japan’s reigning supercar is about to get a whole lot faster, if that’s somehow possible, and we know how much it’ll cost you to get the latest model. For starters, the 2014 Nissan GT-R will set you back $100,590 while the Black Edition trim goes for a cool $110,300, and the top-of-the-line Track Edition model goes for an even steeper $116,710. All pricing includes a $1,000 destination and handling fee.
We’re also hearing that a Nissan GT-R Nismo model has entered the early developmental stages. Not much is known just yet, but rumor has it that the Nismo variant of Godzilla will be “the fastest GT-R ever.” Talk about setting the bar high, as the current GT-R pushes out 545 horsepower from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine and is already among the fastest cars in the world, cost no object. Nevertheless, Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer has confirmed that the GT-R Nismo model–short for Nissan Motorsports–will have more power than the current car.
“There will be an extra kick,” said Palmer to Autocar. “This will be the ultimate GT-R to come out of the factory.”
What we do know so far is that Palmer has driven this alleged GT-R Nismo in Japan. We also know that this new model has already received a lot of input from Nissan’s Nismo racing team, which currently runs GT-Rs in the Super GT racing series and the Nurburgring 24 Hours. With Nismo’s input, expect to see some exterior styling tweaks, but all in the name of more downforce. Palmer said that Nissan is shooting for the latest GT-R to snag the title for fastest lap for a production car at the Nurburgring (which is currently held by the wouldn’t-be-legal-in-the-U.S. Radical SR8 LM with a blistering time of 6:48). As it stands now, the GT-R sits in twelfth place on this list with a time of 7:24:22, set back in 2011.
As for the GT-R, you can actually own now, it still features the same stout 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 with the same power numbers. For the 2014 model year though, Nissan has introduced the GT-R Track Package, which, when tested by sister publication Motor Trend recently, can go from 0-60 mph in a blazing 2.7 seconds. What sets the GT-R Track Edition apart from other models are features like a specially tuned suspension (Bilstein Damptronic gas pressure shock absorbers and higher spring rates), brake cooling guides, a front spoiler that features carbon fiber air ducts, and deleted rear seats. If this all sounds good and you have the extra coin to act on it, you better head down to your local Nissan dealership now because only 150 Track Edition models are headed to our shores.
