Electric Car Travels More Than 1000 Miles on Single Charge

Though the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt currently lead the electric car charge, ze Germans look to change the EV game in the future.

The autosphere is abuzzing with news about the Schluckspecht E electric car. More affectionately known as the “boozer” or “heavy drinker,” the EV concept recently took the top spot for range by traveling 1,013 miles on a single charge. The Mira EV concept by the Japan Electric Vehicle Club previously held the title having traveled 623.23 miles on a single charge.

“Boozer” is the brainchild of the University of Applied Sciences in Offenburg, Germany, the Fraunhofer Institute, and other academic institutions. The Boozer team utilized technologies such as a light-weight body, lithium-cobalt batteries, and wheel-mounted engines to propel the EV around and around and around the Bosch Boxburg Proving Grounds at 28 mph for a staggering 36 hours and 12 minutes. (Talk about coffee breaks.) The Mira EV traveled for 27.5 hours to achieve its miles.

There are no mass production plans for Boozer, which seats just the driver. The EV’s technology, like the engines, is being examined for production.
