Debuting in 1992 as a tribute to the classic American sports car, the Viper’s beautiful styling lines and impressive power made it a shining example of American automotive engineering.
Well, that’s over. Chrysler has announced that production of the Dodge Viper will cease next July with the last 500 units intended to be special vehicles.
A Fiat-engineered successor vehicle has been announced to debut in 2012. Currently very little information about the Viper’s successor has been released which has lead to speculation that it might not even bear the Viper nameplate.
Our take? While many are saddened by the Viper’s nearing end, the prospect of a newer possibly better car coming soon will hopefully raise their spirits.
