Dodge Challenger looks to drop top

2009 Dodge Challenger Srt8 Hood Closeup

Execs at Chrysler are already bragging about the Challenger, especially the SRT8. They are saying that the car will have a top speed of 170 mph which is faster than the BMW M5.
Actually, auto pundits point out that this is not a big deal because the M5 has a speed limiter that keeps it below 155 mph. Without the limiter, it could go 205.

Doesn’t really matter. Muscle car enthusiasts will be happy to see a version of the Dodge Challenger back on the streets of the U.S. in the 2009 model year. Now comes word that a Challenger convertible as being part of the mix. This will be added to the SRT8 which will be in dealers’ showrooms in the spring. Chrysler expects to sell 20,000 to 30,000 Challengers a year.

Additional details can be found at Autoblog. Our take? Perhaps our friends at Chrysler are getting a little bit too excited at the prospects of selling the Challenger again. I guess they need to put a brake on the hype.
