If we didn’t know any better, we’d think that the folks over at Dodge were obsessed with the color black. First, they introduced the Dodge Charger Blacktop package, which then spawned models for the Avenger, Challenger R/T, and the Charger R/T. Now, Dodge will offer the same Blacktop package for the Durango, Grand Caravan, and Journey. The only Dodge branded vehicle remaining that won’t see the Blacktop package treatment (for the time being, anyway) is the Dart.
As for the latest Dodge vehicles to join in on the Blacktop package party, each will once again receive a unique gloss black grille, grille surrounds, and wheels. Other blacked out accents include darkened headlight bezels and a few interior tweaks. The treatment for the Grand Caravan (based on the SXT trim), will set you back an additional $595, but it includes 17-inch wheels, fog lights, a black headliner, and black cloth seats with silver stitching. You also have a choice between five exterior colors for the Grand Caravan Blacktop package. As for the Durango, the Blacktop package only costs an additional $295, and is offered on the new Rallye and R/T V-8 trim levels. This brings 20-inch wheels dipped in gloss black paint, a gloss black grille, and your choice of five exterior colors.
Oddly enough, the Journey is the most expensive Blacktop package: $995. With that price comes with your choice of a five- or seven-passenger model and either an inline-4 or V-6 engine under the hood. The Journey Blacktop package offers seven exterior colors, black cloth or leather seats, and 19-inch gloss black wheels. Gloss black mirrors, headlights, and lower front fascia is also included along with Chrysler’s 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system inside as well.
Dodge hasn’t yet come out and said when the Durango Blacktop package will become available to the public, but the Journey and Grand Caravan Blacktop package will be ready by the beginning of the second quarter this year. The Dodge Journey, Grand Caravan, and Durango Blacktop package will all make its official debut next week at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
