Disneyland’s Cars Land opens this weekend in Anaheim, California, near the site of Walt’s original theme park southeast of Los Angeles, and according to early reports, it’s as awesome as 2006’s Disney-Pixar Cars movie.
The fictional town of Radiator Springs, based on a Route 66 everytown for the anthropomorphic cast of talking cars, is located on 12 acres inside Disney’s constantly evolving California Adventure theme park. And if you’ve ever been to California Adventure, you’ll know that Cars Land will be the sole attraction.
A cursory glance reveals that Cars Land will have three attractions, including Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi’s Flying Tires, and the highly anticipated Radiator Spring’s Racers. RSR is the ride that has been featured on Disney’s Facebook page and blog, and was the sneak peek video featured in our previous Cars Land report.
Cars Land further features an accurate recreation of the computer-animated town with an emphasis on back-story and theme park hospitality. At the center of town, theme parkers will be able to refuel at the Cozy Cone Motel, Flo’s V8 Café, Ramone’s House of Body Art, Luigi’s Casa Della Tires and the Radiator Springs Curio Shop. At night, Disney has planned a lighting moment featuring the hit doo-wop song “Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream).”
We’re not exactly looking forward to several hour waits, so we’ll not be attending opening weekend, but we hope to have a more detailed review soon thereafter. In the meantime, to avoid the tens of thousands of people crowding into the land, our advice is to reacquaint with what we hope will be shorter lines at Disneyland’s classic Autopia.
