Talk about going the extra mile. A couple from the Netherlands is embarking on a 52,816 mile journey around the world this year, passing through Africa, South America, Mexico, the United States, Canada, India, China, Mongolia, Siberia and Russia, before returning to the Netherlands again in 2014. Why are they doing this you ask? For charity, of course. Oh, they’re doing this in a 1915 Ford Model T too.
Along the way, Dirk Regter and his wife Trudy will be making stops at the international development organization for children SOS Children’s Villages across the world. There, the Regters plan to provide help to each village which helps give orphan children a family.
This isn’t the first time Regter has logged a ton of miles in one sitting with his Model T. Back in 2007, Regter drove more than 8,000 miles from Peking to Paris. As planned for the latest voyage, Regter passed through China, Mongolia, Russia, and the Baltic states en route to Paris. On that trip Regter was able to raise around $175,000 which went to building a school in eastern Mongolia and a center for disabled children in western Mongolia.
