Chrysler’s Rejection Of GM Bid Triggered Breakup

Gm Chrysler Question

Yes, General Motors did put in a bid for Chrysler. According to the Associated Press (via Mercury News), the action was taken in late January and caused DaimlerChrysler to decide to go ahead and shop the car maker.

GM’s offer would have given DaimlerChrysler a minority stake in GM stock of less than 10 percent and called for the German automaker to pay GM more than $1 billion to defray Chrysler’s healthcare costs. Finally, the deal would have required DaimlerChrysler to team up with GM to seek financial concessions from the United Auto Workers union.

The offer made by GM is still on the table but it appears that it will not be enough to make Chrysler part of the GM stable.
