Chrysler PT Cruiser to be Discontinued

2008 Chrysler Pt Cruiser Sunset Boulevard Edition Rear Right

Back in 2000, some of us remember cruising the streets of Los Angeles when our eyes were attracted by a car that was out of some 1930s movie or something. It looked a little bit like a station wagon but it wasn’t. It was a four door with a door in the rear as well.

It was the Chrysler PT Cruiser. We were never sure if we really liked it after all.

Well, now comes word from Chrysler that the PT Cruiser will be discontinued. No more of them once we reach summer of this year.

The best year for the Cruiser as far as sales were concerned was 2001 when 144,717 units were delivered. But sales were in the tank in 2008 and dropped 49 percent over 2007 to a disappointing 50,910 units.

The Cruiser joins the Dodge magnum station wagon, the Durango and Pacifica SUVs, the Crossfire sports car and the Aspen as models canceled by Chrysler since being acquired by Cerberus. Now Chrysler has only three models left in its stable — the Town & Country minivan, the Sebring and the 300C sedan.
