There’s a saying that “It’s good to be king, if just for a while.” For Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne, that appears to be the case, as he will be donating his customized 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 to the Barrett-Jackson auction. All proceeds will benefit the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, a program Marchionne and Chrysler Group have worked closely with in years past. The auction is set to take place in Palm Beach, Fla. from April 4-6.
Marchionne’s one-of-a-kind Challenger SRT8 392 features Mopar’s 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 crate engine, rated at 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The special Challenger is dunked in Pitch Black exterior paint and features Dark Charcoal racing stripes that were put in place by the master painters in Chrysler Group’s Product Design office. Mopar’s adjustable coil-over suspension set-up gives Marchionne’s Challenger SRT8 an aggressive stance. A Mopar exhaust system gives the Challenger SRT8 a throaty bark and smoked out taillights carry the sinister look on from behind. The 392 HEMI fender badging has been finished in a gloss and satin black while the factory forged 20-inch wheels are covered in a matte black paint to finish off the murdered out look.
Inside, Marchionne’s customized Challenger SRT8 features custom-trimmed black leather seats, SRT and 392 logos stitched into the chairs, and all the other normal performance goodies that come with an SRT vehicle’s infotainment system. Some of these performance features include the Electronic Vehicle Information Center which holds functions like your best 0-60 mph, 60-0 mph braking, and quarter-mile times.
The decision to donate this specialized 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 runs congruently with United Way’s community giving campaign, an annual event that kicked off back in September of last year with a goal of raising $35 million. Marchionne serves as the Campaign Chair for this effort and lit a symbolic torch at the United Way’s lighting ceremony in Detroit.
