Chrysler, Chery part ways on Small Car Development

Chery Car Front Left

Whether a cost cutting move or an understanding that it won’t be around to enjoy the benefits, Chrysler has said that it has dropped its plans to construct a small car under a joint venture agreement with Chery of China.
That means that Chrysler has only one Asian partner who is assisting it in the development of small cars — Nissan. It is said that Chrysler and Nissan will be introducing a Nissan-designed small car to the North American market in 2010. And Chrysler has been selling the Nissan constructed Dodge Trazo in Latin America this year.

Chrysler still has ties with Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor Company. The two are exploring the possibility of swapping and purchasing parts from each other.
