Chrysler Ahead Of Competition To Build Concept Into Reality

Dodge Demon Concept Top Front Right

While many automakers create concept cars as a whim more to promote the nameplate than the car itself, Chrysler is serious about its concept vehicles.

In fact, according to CanWest News Service (via driving), the American automaker has a track record of ultimately producing those concept cars for sale to us car enthusiasts in the public.

Remember when Chrysler introduced that "cab forward" concept with the Lambo engine at the Frankfurt Auto Show back ’87? It wasn’t long before that concept went into production and was sold under the Chrysler, Dodge, and (now defunct) Plymouth and Eagle nameplates.

Since the end of the 1980s, Chrysler has created more than 100 concept vehicles in all sorts of shapes, sizes, configurations, and materials. Examples include the Dodge Viper RT/10 (1989); the Dodge Neon (1991); the Plymouth Prowler (1993); the Jeep Commander (1999); the PT Cruiser (2000); the Dodge Crossfire (2001); the Chrysler Pacifica (2002); the Jeep Compass (2005); and the Dodge Avenger (2006).

So, the next time Chrysler unveils a new concept vehicle at a car show near you, keep in the back of your mind that you might truly have the chance to drive it some time in the not-to-distant future.
