General Motors has plans to kind of ease the Chevrolet Volt into the American market.
Thus, it is focusing on selected markets for the initial introduction in 2011.
These markets include California, Michigan and Washington, D.C. GM says that concentrating the initial in those states will provide customers with “a high quality experience.” High quality experience, heck.
GM said that it will ultimately be constructing between 50,000 and 60,000 Volts a year. But it will limit the first year’s production to 10,000 cars.
Elsewhere, GM has developed partnerships with utility companies in California and Michigan and has recently done so with Pepco and Dominion electric companies in Washington, D.C. These utilities will be developing, installing and testing a charging infrastructure before the car is released. Plans are to supply about 100 Volts to several utility partners in November who will install 500 charging stations.
