Chevy Recalls Over 10,000 2012 Impala Sedans Due to Engine Fire Risk

2011 Chevrolet Impala Rear View

General Motors has issued a recall on its 2012 Chevrolet Impala. According to the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, part of the Impala’s power steering hose routes incorrectly near—or even on—the engine’s catalytic converter. Heat from the converter can then melt the power steering hose, causing a fluid leak and a possible engine fire.

Owners can view the recall here. The NHTSA says 10,344 vehicles may be affected by the recall. GM has already issued recall notices to owners, who can also contact Chevrolet at 800-630-2438. The Chevy Impala’s recall number is 11224. Owners can also contact the NHTSA hotline at 888-327-4236 and reference the NHTSA recall ID 11V398000. GM says its Chevrolet dealerships will repair any incorrectly placed power steering hose free of charge.

Neither GM or the NHTSA have reported any accidents due to the issue.
