If you had the option, would you buy your current vehicle again? That’s what Consumer Reports asked its readers in its annual Owner-Satisfaction survey. For the second straight year, the Chevrolet Volt was the clear-cut winner placing at the top of the survey. In total, 92 percent of CR readers who own a Volt would, in fact, buy it again despite the hybrid vehicle being a political punching bag of sorts over the past year.
“The Volt’s two-year reign at the top of our satisfaction survey points to the continuing trend of owners’ enthusiasm for cars that are fuel-efficient cars, especially as we see more and more hybrid and electric models hitting the market,” said Consumer Reports’ Auto Editor Rik Paul in a release. “The combination of sporty handling and strong engine performance also goes a long way in building loyalty and generating excitement among owners.”
The Volt wasn’t the only fuel-sipping vehicle to inhabit CR’s survey, though. Other fuel efficient models included the Toyota Prius, Prius c, Camry hybrid, and the Nissan Leaf. Other vehicles, albeit not exactly environmentally friendly, that made CR’s owner satisfaction survey included the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 911, Dodge Challenger with a V-8, and Ford Mustang. Luxury vehicles on CR’s list included the Audi A6, Audi A7, and the Lexus GS.
As for vehicles that owners wouldn’t purchase again, the survey uncovered that people were less likely to buy the redesigned Nissan Versa, Nissan Armada, Suzuki SX4, Mitsubishi Outlander, and the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra with a V-6 engine. According to the survey, it appears that where an automaker hails from has little to do with owner satisfaction. Out of all 44 top-rated models, 16 came from America, 14 from Asia, and 14 were from across the pond.
While collecting data for its survey, Consumer Reports saw almost 350,000 responses poor in pertaining to more than 240 different models that covered the 2010 to 2013 model year. The survey itself was conducted by Consumer Reports National Research Center. A vehicle’s score was tallied by the percentage of people who answered “definitely yes” after being asked if they would buy their current vehicle again.
