While we here the US await eagerly the arrival of the Chevy Volt, the Brits seem to already have some insider info.
Apparently, the prototypes will be Opel Astra-based. There’s even the possibility of the Volt itself even being spun off the platform. Weight distribution is said to be a sports car like 50:50, though the curb weight is a hefty 3520 pounds.
A shame really, as a lighter car would’ve been that much more efficient, though the weight isn’t far from typical of the similarly sized vehicles.
Our take? It must have a lot of batteries in the trunk to make what would otherwise be a nose heavy package balanced. Probably mediocre to drive in the twisties as well, far to much inertia .
