Chevrolet Volt “Faceman” Tony Posawatz Retires

2012 Chevrolet Volt

Though former General Motors executive Bob Lutz is credited with the genesis of the Chevrolet Volt, it is Tony Posawatz whom the press dealt with at most events and auto shows. Posawatz lead the Volt’s development as vehicle line director since 2006.

GM announced that Posawatz has retired from the automaker. Posawatz, a 30-year veteran at GM, was one of the planning directors over at the company’s full-sized trucks division. There, he led the development of the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck.

Posawatz has not stated his future plans post-GM, though he’d like to work “in the area of automotive innovation and very likely in electrification.” However, until then, he plans to take some time off with his family.
