Caught! 2014 Cadillac Escalade Testing

Cadillac had a busy year launching two all-new models, the 2013 Cadillac XTS and the 2013 Cadillac ATS. We drove both and like the direction Caddy’s taking, but what about the automaker’s other models, for example, it’s iconic SUV, the Escalade? Well, we now have spy shots of the 2014 Cadillac Escalade, and despite the camouflage, we’re able to glean a few details.

2014 Cadillac Escalade Rear Three Quartes View 300x200 imageThe 2014 Escalade looks to retain its overall elongated shape, prominent grille and large wheels (previous base models received 18-inch wheels; luxury editions rode on 22-inchers), with all the particulars receiving only small aesthetic adjustments. LED headlights and accent strips will be offered on more expensive models, if not as standard across the range. While the outside looks to receive minor tweaking, it’s the interior Caddy seems to be focusing on. GM feels a unique interior is needed to distance the Escalade from other GM premium SUVs such as the Yukon and Tahoe. During the height of the SUV craze, the Escalade was popular among athletes and celebrities. Yet despite having more features than its siblings, the current Escalade feels dated compared to newer competitors, such as the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. We’ll hope there’s a lot we can’t see under that camouflage, if the Escalade is to look and feel current and fresh.
