Just because the current 556-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V is on its way out the door, with the larger, redesigned 2014 Cadillac CTS on its way in next month at the New York Auto Show doesn’t mean you should start worrying. Cadillac has more in store for those in love with horsepower decked in leather-lined luxury.
According to rumblings picked up from our sister publication Motor Trend, the future Cadillac CTS-V will retain a Corvette-derived V-8 engine, likely a supercharged or turbocharged version of the 6.2-liter LT1 engine that’s making its debut in the 2014 ‘Chevrolet Corvette. Motor Trend says that engineers are still mulling which would be better.
In the upcoming Cadillac ATS-V, there will be a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, pushing numbers similar to the BMW M3 and M4. Don’t expect it to produce more than 500 horsepower until a higher-range version comes out, perhaps even stuffing a V-8 engine beneath its hood. M5 chasing will be strictly a CTS-V affair.
But one of the big draws for the current Cadillac CTS-V has been its coupe and wagon body styles. There’s doubt as to whether they’ll return. Speaking with an employee within the General Motors empire, we’ve learned there’s almost no chance that they will. That’s because the Cadillac ATS will soon spawn a coupe. A wagon is still not too likely despite the ease of producing one and the profits that came with it.
In a last bit of news, Motor Trend is reporting that the flagship Cadillac is facing cost-cutting controversy with its management debating the merits of some premium parts, and Cadillac may be looking at going towards a different naming scheme than its three letters–ATS, CTS, and SRX.
