Consumer Reports rated the BMW X3 best over all in tests against the Acura RXD and Mazda CX7 for its January, 2007 issue, unusual for a German entry in the popular magazine.Criteria in the ratings concentrates on a comfortable ride; well appointed interior; and quickness, agility, and responsiveness on the road. The new X3 comes with a 260 horsepower, 3.0 liter inline six cylinder engine and a six speed automatic transmission.

While the X3 garnered “very good” scores in testing, the RDX and CX-7 received lower scores but was still rated “Very Good.” However, the X3 has below-average reliability, a major weak point for most German vehicles, in the Reports subscriber surveys.

The X3 3.0si has an MSRP as tested of $43,120. The RDX MSRP as tested comes out to be $37,165. And the CX7 Grand Touring has a MSRP as tested of $32,915.
