BMW Recalling 7 Series

2006-BMW-760-Li-Front-Three-Quarters-View

Problem

BMW is issuing a recall for 7,485 BMW 7 Series models produced between 2004 and 2007. BMW says the recall affects the luxury sedan’s power doors, both Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options. Due to a software glitch, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but could open inadvertently, which could be very dangerous while the car is in motion. There is also an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Fix

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will update the software at no charge. The recall is expected to begin November 2012. Owners may contact BMW at (800) 525-7417 or email at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com. Additionally owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at (888) 327-4236, or get more information on the NHTSA’s website www.safecar.gov
